An Introduction

Hey everyone, I'm Emily and here is a selfie.

I'm in my mid-late twenties and my partner J and I are currently expecting our first child late
September this year (only three months left!)

Previously ...
I grew up in Perth, Western Australia - a place I never realised how beautiful it was until I left - and
moved to Melbourne in 2012 due to needing to put myself first. I had a somewhat difficult upbringing
and family members that I still struggle to cope with even though I'm on the other side of Australia,
but I know if I didn't make the move I would be nowhere near where I am today.

Luckily for me, my next youngest sister S had already made the move to country Victoria and she
was able to give me somewhere to live and a fantastic introduction to the Victoria lifestyle. She still
lives in country Victoria with her four babies and I'm so thankful for everything she did for me to be
able to make the move here.
Even though we are two hours from each other we talk almost every single day.

I still have conflicting feelings about leaving my home and my family in Perth. I am the oldest of
seven children among my mother and father as well as step-parents - so most of my siblings are
technically half siblings but I have never thought of them this way. I spent quite a bit of my time
raising my siblings and saw myself as their protector - so leaving to look after myself was one of the
hardest things I've had to do - it is something I still feel guilty about now and then.

And Now ...
I have a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (sounds cool right!) that I studied for
off-campus - this is much harder to do than you might think it is. My partner and I have been together
since 2013 and we have a little baby boy or girl on the way. We live in Melbourne and like quite a bit
of the Melbourne population - neither of us were born or raised here.

I am a creative person - I have been crocheting for about ten years and knitting for the last two.
I also enjoy sewing, cooking and baking. Everyone always comments on how much spare time I must
have to get everything I do done - like making a crochet toy and bringing in home made banana bread
to work but I think its just that I have chosen to spend my spare time doing productive things I love
and when I need to take time out to just sit on the couch or watch TV or read book I will do so - but
this doesn't seen to happen to often.

People tell me I'm obsessed with criminals (Bachelor of Criminology relevant here!) Even my
teachers in high school mentioned that I always chose a criminal when we were asked to research a
prominent historical figure. I prefer to say I have an interest in the minds of criminals and how some
people turn to this life and others don't - not necessarily an obsession - but,
you should see all the books on my bookshelf!

I have a ragdoll cat Olivia who I got as soon as I moved to Victoria so she has been with me for
almost 5 years now. She doesn't know she is a cat sometimes - she likes be my little spoon most
nights, she loves salt and vinegar chips and icy-poles and doesn't care for cat nip at all.

I hope that is enough of an introduction so I don't feel like a complete stranger anymore.
Feel free to drop in and say hi whenever you like 😊

xx Emily
